Nairobi, Kenya – The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has issued a stern warning to the government led by President William Ruto, emphasizing crucial demands that require immediate action to ensure Kenya's adherence to democratic principles and political stability. The NCCK cautions that failure to address these issues could lead to significant unrest and undermine the nation's democratic framework.

Reconstitution of the IEBC: The NCCK calls for an urgent reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). The Council asserts that a credible and reformed electoral body is vital for political stability and public trust in Kenya's electoral processes.Safeguarding School Reopening: The NCCK has expressed profound concern regarding the government's commitment to ensuring the safe reopening of schools. The Council demands that the government adhere to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with teachers to prevent disruptions in the education sector.

Addressing the Demands of Generation Z: The NCCK underscores the importance of addressing the grievances raised by Generation Z during recent protests. The Council urges the government to engage constructively with Kenya's youth to address their aspirations and concerns.

Properly Structured Education Sector: The NCCK has voiced strong objections to a recent government circular mandating that all school-going children be registered under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF). The Council deems this move unconstitutional and accuses the government of employing a backdoor tactic. The NCCK demands the immediate withdrawal of the circular and calls for inclusive public participation to allow stakeholders to present their views.

The NCCK Assembly remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for justice and safeguarding the rights of all Kenyans. The Council implores the government to act promptly on these demands to prevent further tension and potential unrest in the country.

The NCCK emphasizes that addressing these issues is crucial for preserving Kenya’s democracy, ensuring quality education, and responding to the needs of its citizens, especially the youth.
