Mt Kenya Leaders in Nairobi Urge DP Gachagua to End Divisive Tribal Politics

A group of Mt Kenya leaders living in Nairobi has publicly urged Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to stop engaging in divisive tribal politics and instead focus on uniting the country and supporting the agenda of President William Ruto’s administration.

Speaking at a gathering in Nairobi, Abdalla Karenjo, a prominent leader from the Mt Kenya region, strongly condemned the recent tribal sentiments expressed by DP Gachagua, calling for an end to politics that divide rather than unite. He emphasized that the Mt Kenya region is committed to staying in government and supporting President Ruto, highlighting the region's key role in his election.
“We cannot afford to allow ourselves to be sidelined again. If Gachagua chooses to engage in tribal politics, he will go it alone. We fully supported President Ruto, and we are in this government to stay,” said Karenjo.

Karenjo’s remarks come amidst growing concerns that Gachagua’s rhetoric could alienate key constituencies and cause unnecessary division within the ruling coalition. He called on the Deputy President to refocus his energy on national unity and development instead of engaging in tribal-based politics.

"Our president is William Ruto, and he represents all Kenyans. Gachagua must stop these tribal games and concentrate on fostering national cohesion. We need a united front to deliver on the promises we made to the people,” Karenjo added.

This public call by Mt Kenya leaders marks a significant shift in the region's political dynamics, as they assert their commitment to maintaining a strong partnership with the national government while distancing themselves from tribal narratives.
