The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) Executive Committee, convening at Jumuia Conference and Country Home, Limuru, has issued a stark warning about the critical state of the nation.

State of the Nation: Kenya on Life Support

The NCCK has likened Kenya's current state to a patient in the Intensive Care Unit, citing:

1. Economic Free-Fall: Businesses collapsing, unemployment rising, and poverty worsening.
2. Erosion of Rights: Fear of abductions and forced disappearances pervades the nation.
3. Propaganda Culture: Lies and misinformation dominate public discourse.
4. Assault on Democracy: Attacks on constitutional frameworks undermine national unity.

Key Resolutions and Calls to Action

1. Seek Truth: Citizens must critically evaluate political narratives, avoiding manipulation by falsehoods.
2. Reconstitute IEBC: Immediate action is required to reform the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to protect democracy.
3. Recall Ineffective Leaders: Under Articles 97 and 98 of the Constitution, citizens are urged to initiate the recall process for non-performing MPs.
4. Demand Better Healthcare: Suspend the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) implementation until adequate structures are in place.
5. Reject Corruption: Name and shame corrupt individuals and institutions to dismantle this culture of impunity.

A Pastoral Exhortation

Drawing from biblical guidance, NCCK Secretary-General Canon Karanja emphasized:

• On Prosperity: "The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity…" (Deuteronomy 28:11).
• On Justice: "Her leaders judge for a bribe…" (Micah 3:11).
