As a display of unity and support for the regional East African Community (EAC) Games, Members of Parliament (MPs) opted to travel aboard the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to Mombasa. The move highlighted the efficiency, comfort, and economic impact of using Kenya’s flagship rail service.
Speaking during the journey, Kenya Railways Managing Director, Mr. Philip Mainga, underscored the importance of SGR in driving economic growth. He noted that the service is not just a transportation solution but a catalyst for business and tourism expansion.

“The SGR is a game-changer in Kenya’s transport sector. By choosing to travel with us, MPs are showcasing a commitment to supporting national infrastructure and promoting it as the ideal mode of transport,” said Mr. Mainga.

Speaker Hon Mosses Watengula, speaking on behalf of the MPs, praised the decision to use SGR, calling it a milestone in promoting economic opportunities and enhancing the visibility of key transport hubs like the Siokimau SGR Station.

“This journey is more than travel. It’s a statement of how modern infrastructure like the SGR can contribute to national growth. As we head to Mombasa for the EAC Games, we also celebrate the role of SGR in connecting Kenyans and boosting trade,” Hon. Ngina remarked.

The MPs' journey symbolizes the strategic role of the SGR in fostering regional integration, boosting local businesses, and enhancing Kenya’s standing as a hub for sports and tourism.
