The Bus Party, under the leadership of Hon. Lenny Kivuti and former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi, has officially distanced itself from President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza alliance, asserting its autonomy ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a high-profile press conference in Nairobi, Hon. Kivuti emphasized the party’s commitment to ideological clarity and political independence.
“We are a party with strong ideology. We ask those with aligned principles to join us, but for now, we will not be joining any political coalition—including Kenya Kwanza or the UDA Party,” said Kivuti.
The Bus Party also declared its intention to field candidates nationwide and unveil its own presidential candidate, positioning itself as a fresh and credible alternative in Kenya’s political landscape. As part of this strategy, the party announced that Hon. Newton Ndwiga has expressed interest in running for the Mbeere Constituency by-election, following the resignation of Hon. Geophrey Ruku, who has taken up a role in the Public Service.
Former Governor Kiraitu Murungi, a key party figure, reaffirmed the Bus Party’s vision of issue-based politics and genuine representation.
“Our message is clear: we are not political puppets. We are building a movement rooted in integrity, service, and genuine representation,” he said.
The bold declaration by the Bus Party signals a new chapter in Kenya’s political discourse and a potential realignment of forces ahead of the 2027 elections.
