The controversial youth lobby group YK27 has stirred public outrage after boldly declaring that President William Ruto deserves a second term in office, urging Kenyans to stop what they termed as "destructive protests" against a working government.
Addressing the media at a press briefing held in Nairobi, the group's spokesperson, Mark Onyango, accused the opposition and civil society of inciting unrest, referencing the recent demonstrations that led to the death of Gen Z protester, Albert Ojwang.
“We mourn Albert Ojwang, but we must be honest — protests won’t build Kenya. This government is working. Ruto is liberating the country from decades of economic captivity. He must be given time — and another term — to complete the transformation,” Mark stated.
The youth group dismissed ongoing demonstrations as "politically motivated sabotage" and pledged to rally support among the youth for Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid.
“Ruto must rule again! No debate. We won't allow a few noisy quarters to destabilize the country while the President is fixing corruption, empowering hustlers, and attracting foreign investment,” Mark added.
Their comments have sparked immediate backlash online, with many youth accusing YK27 of ignoring widespread frustrations over high living costs, unemployment, and police brutality.
Despite the storm, YK27 insists they represent the “silent majority” who still believe in the Kenya Kwanza vision and are ready to hit the ground in support of Ruto’s second term.
