Government Spokesperson Hon. Isaac Mwaura has launched a scathing attack on sections of the civil society, accusing them of inciting the public to oppose the proposed Finance Bill 2025/26 for their own selfish interests and to appease foreign donors.Speaking during a high-profile youth book launch event in Nairobi, Mwaura singled out Diana Gichengo, a prominent civil society leader, alleging that she used a local radio station platform to spread misinformation and rally citizens against the bill.“We will not allow Kenyans to be deceived again. Some of these civil society actors are being funded by foreign organizations to destabilize our country by misleading the public,” said Mwaura. “We know their agenda – to paint the government as anti-people while they collect dollars behind closed doors.”His remarks come against the backdrop of last year’s public outrage over the Finance Bill 2024, which led to mass protests and forced President William Ruto to withdraw the bill, despite its earlier approval by Parliament.Mwaura urged Kenyans, particularly the youth, to seek facts and reject manipulation by individuals and organizations with ulterior motives.“This time, we must resist being used as pawns. Let us build and not break our nation,” he emphasized. The Government Spokesperson reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transparency and public participation in the legislative process, stating that genuine feedback is welcome but incitement will not be tolerated.
