The Political Parties Liaison Committee has raised the alarm over what it terms as ongoing constitutional violations and the growing political disillusionment among Kenya’s youth. In a statement issued today, the Committee declared that “the Constitution has not been complied with”, adding that the current socio-political climate demands a national dialogue to avert a looming generational crisis.

The Committee has backed the recent proposal by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who called for intergenerational talks between Gen Z and the government in response to the widespread protests, police brutality, and economic frustrations that have gripped the nation in recent weeks

We cannot continue burying our heads in the sand while the country burns from within. The voices of the youth must be heard, respected, and meaningfully included in the national discourse,” the Committee stated.

They emphasized that the dialogue must be inclusive, bringing together Gen Z leaders, civil society, religious leaders, opposition figures, and representatives from the Executive and Parliament.

According to the Committee, the situation has deteriorated due to the failure of key state organs to uphold constitutional provisions around accountability, equity, public participation, and youth representation.

“We are witnessing a clear breakdown in trust between the government and a large segment of the population, particularly the youth. This is dangerous and must be addressed urgently through a structured national conversation.”

The Committee has further warned that unless these issues are addressed through open, honest, and inclusive dialogue, the country risks plunging deeper into instability.
