Kenya Must Act on Gaza Crisis

By Bruno Aero
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached catastrophic levels, with supplies blocked and over 90% of the 2.3 million residents displaced. There is no safe place in Gaza, and the global community of conscience is strongly condemning these atrocities.

We urge the Kenyan government to amplify its voice on the international stage and take meaningful action to support efforts toward achieving lasting peace and justice for the Palestinian people. Given Kenya's legacy in peacebuilding, we had hoped that the government would be leading efforts to end the bloodshed in Palestine.
Kenya's own history under British colonial rule, marked by mass killings, arbitrary detentions, and displacement, should inform its response to the Gaza crisis. The government has a moral obligation to stand firm and unequivocally condemn the atrocities.

We must remind ourselves that just over three decades ago—in 1994—our neighbour Rwanda experienced a genocide in which more than a million lives were lost, largely due to global indifference."

As one of Africa's most influential nations, Kenya has a pivotal role to play in promoting peace and security. The government should loudly call for a ceasefire and sustainable peace in Palestine, as demanded by the United Nations and the African Union.
Kenya cannot afford to be indifferent to the suffering in Gaza. The government must take a strong stance and work towards a lasting solution to the crisis, upholding its legacy of peacebuilding and protecting human life.
