Kenya today marked the 9th African Anti-Corruption Day at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi. The event, themed to Promoting Human Dignity in the Fight Against Corruption," brought together stakeholders from the public, private, and civil society sectors to raise awareness and galvanize action against corruption.The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recovered assets worth approximately Kes 28 billion in the last six years and averted potential losses estimated at Kes 42 billion.
The Commission is targeting a further Kes 50 billion suspected to have been illicitly acquired.
Recovered assets are being repurposed to restore public welfare and uphold human dignity, including providing affordable housing for residents of informal settlements.
EACC Chairperson Dr. David Oginde emphasized the importance of anti-corruption efforts in protecting national resources that contribute to equitable development. He called for
Comprehensive Reforms: Strengthening the fight against corruption through comprehensive legal and institutional reforms.
Independent Justice Sector Ensuring independent justice sector actors and an empowered, vigilant citizenry capable of holding leaders and institutions accountable.
Dr. Oginde commended the growing demand for ethical governance and integrity-driven leadership among African youth. The EACC is working to collaborate with the youth to develop a culture of integrity and promote anti-corruption efforts.
The commemoration underscores the need for collective action to combat corruption and promote human dignity, transparency, and accountability in governance.
