Huawei Advances Digital Inclusion with Smart Classroom Workshop for Underserved Schools

Huawei, in partnership with Hiperdist, KCB Foundation, and Digion/Smatrace Solutions Ltd., today hosted a Smart Classroom Workshop at its Nairobi premises, highlighting how digital solutions can transform learning in underserved communities.
The event brought together representatives from 20 Muslim schools across Kenya, who explored the adoption of Huawei’s Smart Classroom Solution—a digital education platform designed to enhance interactivity, accessibility, and learning outcomes through technology.

Held at the Huawei Exhibition Room, the workshop featured interactive demonstrations, engagement sessions, and collaborative discussions. Attendees gained hands-on experience with Smart Classroom tools and discussed strategies to effectively integrate digital learning environments into their schools.
At Huawei, we believe technology should be an equalizer,” said Maureen Mwaniki, Public Affairs Director, Huawei Kenya. “Our Smart Classroom Solution is designed not just to digitize education, but to democratize it—ensuring students from all backgrounds, including underserved communities, have access to world-class learning environments.”

A major highlight of the event was the announcement that Steadfast Academy will be the first to implement the Huawei Smart Classroom Solution, serving as a reference school for others considering similar digital transformations.

Representing KCB Foundation, Ms. Virginia Mwangi, SME Specialist & Relationship Manager for SMEs & Learning Institutes, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to inclusive education:

“This partnership with Huawei reflects our shared goal of equipping schools with the tools and skills necessary to prepare students for a digital economy. By embracing innovation, we aim to unlock opportunities, bridge gaps, and empower the next generation to thrive in a digital future.”
Building on DigiSchool Success

This workshop builds on Huawei’s broader efforts to foster digital inclusion in Kenya. Earlier this year, Huawei, in collaboration with UNESCO and Kenyan government partners, successfully completed Phase II of the DigiSchool Connectivity Project, delivering high-speed internet to 21 schools, including six for learners with special needs, benefiting more than 10,000 students.

The project aligns with Kenya’s Digital Superhighway Agenda and directly supports national priorities under Vision 2030, as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

SDG 4 – Quality Education: Promoting inclusive and equitable learning.

SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure: Enhancing education through modern digital tools.

SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities: Bridging the digital divide in underserved communities.

SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: Showcasing effective collaboration between private and public stakeholders.

Looking Ahead

With Phase III of DigiSchool in the pipeline, Huawei and its partners plan to scale access, improve teaching quality, and deepen digital innovation across Kenya’s schools.

The Smart Classroom solution aligns with Huawei’s commitment to deploy innovative technologies that connect people and make technology an enabler of productivity,” added Ms. Mwaniki. “This ensures that students from all corners of the country have an equal opportunity to thrive, because access to quality education is a core driver of success.”

By fostering partnerships and showcasing scalable technology, Huawei and its partners are reshaping Kenya’s education landscape—building a more inclusive, future-ready, and digitally empowered generation of learners.
