KUPPET Slams TSC for Lip Service on Teacher Promotions
By Bruno Aero
The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Teachers (KUPPET) has criticized the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for its handling of teacher promotions, citing the Police Service Commission's decision to promote stagnated officers as a positive example. The NPSC's policy aims to motivate officers who have served in one grade for at least 10 years or are above 50 years old.
KUPPET demands that the TSC follow the NPSC's example and promote stagnated teachers immediately. The union argues that teachers who have earned advanced degrees at their own expense and have served for many years without promotion deserve recognition. KUPPET plans to send a list of stagnated teachers to the TSC and demand their promotion

The issue of stagnation affects many teachers who have been in the same job group for over 10 years. Some teachers were last promoted in 2009 or 2011 and have since earned advanced degrees. The TSC's promotion process has been criticized for being lengthy and cumbersome, with some teachers facing multiple interviews for the same position.
