Wings of Courage: AMREF Flying Doctors Soars Again

AMREF has revisit a poignant tribute to their fallen colleagues, AMREF Flying Doctors has launched its maiden mission flight since the tragic aircraft accident on August 7, 2025. The Wings of Courage flight marks a significant milestone in the organization's journey of healing and resilience.

The flight, which transported a critically injured patient from Zanzibar to Belgium, serves as a testament to the dedication and bravery of the AMREF Flying Doctors team. Steve Gitau, CEO of AMREF Flying Doctors, said, This flight is more than a mission it is a message. A message that courage endures, that service continues, and that the legacy of our fallen heroes lives on in every life we save

The organization continues to mourn the loss of Captain Muthuka Munuve, Captain Brian Kimani Miaro, Dr. Charles Mugo Njoroge, and Nurse Jane Rispah Aluoch Omusula, along with two Mwihoko residents. AMREF Flying Doctors remains committed to supporting the bereaved families with emotional, logistical, and practical assistance

Since the accident, the organization has taken important steps to support its teams, affected families, and the broader mission. These include:

Family Engagement and Support: Ongoing counselling, dedicated liaison services, and regular updates to families.

 Community Support Active engagement with the Mwihoko community, including psychosocial support and relief assistance.

 Accident Investigation: AMREF Flying Doctors is working closely with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) and other investigative bodies to facilitate a thorough and transparent review
