From nowhere, in 2013, she was thrust into the murky world of Kenyan politics, when she was nominated to the Senate by the ruling Jubilee Party.
In former Homeboyz Radio presenter, the then President Uhuru Kenyatta found a key point person in Nyanza region.
This marked the beginning of Joy Gwendo's checkered political career.
But while in office as a Senator, he political career ran in tandem with controversy: from drunk- driving to dramatic social life, the outspoken politician was emerging as a new breed of politician.
In 2017, despite Kisumu being a key ODM party leader Raila Odinga's key backyard, Gwendo made a bold move to run for the Kisumu Town East MP seat on a Jubilee Party ticket. She lost. This marked the beginning of her downfall even as the reality sunk.
In 2018, her troubles begun when she was arrested for alleged fraud and obtaining money by false pretence.
Further, she was accused of abusing her office when she served as senator.
In a landmark ruling by a Kisumu Court, the former lawmaker was handed a jail sentence. She spent several days behind the bars before securing her freedom after paying huge fine.
Seven years later, Gwendo has kept a very low public profile amid speculations on her political future.
