UDA Gets a Boost as Tycoon Buzeki Bundotich Joins Party
By Bruno Aero
In a surprise move, businessman Zedekiah "Buzeki" Bundotich has defected to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), pledging his support for President William Ruto's re-election bid. Buzeki, a former critic of the President, was warmly welcomed by UDA's Secretary General Hassan Omar and Executive Director Nicodemus Bore at the party headquarters in Nairobi.
A Change of Heart
Buzeki, who has twice vied for the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat, cited President Ruto's transformative leadership as the reason for his decision to join UDA. He praised the President for welcoming him to the party and expressed his commitment to campaigning for his re-election. "I want to thank the UDA Party for accepting us to be members. I have completed my registration and been received warmly, and I am now officially a member of UDA," Buzeki said.
A Potential Showdown
Buzeki's defection to UDA sets the stage for a possible showdown with Governor Jonathan Bii, the Uasin Gishu incumbent elected on a UDA ticket. Buzeki has assured UDA officials that he will mobilize strong support for the President in 2027, noting that the opposition previously garnered over 100,000 votes in Uasin Gishu County.
UDA's Response
UDA's leadership has welcomed Buzeki warmly, promising fair competition as the party prepares for the 2027 elections. "We will compete on issues; we will compete on ideas for all seats, from MCA to governor. This will be like a home match," UDA's Secretary General Hassan Omar said.
Buzeki's defection to UDA is seen as a boost to the party's fortunes in Uasin Gishu County. With his strong support base and organizational skills, Buzeki is expected to play a key role in mobilizing support for President Ruto's re-election bid. As the 2027 elections approach, all eyes will be on UDA's internal dynamics and how the party navigates its primaries.
