The Methodist Church in Kenya (MCK) has issued a powerful call to action, urging Kenyans to embrace unity, ethical leadership, and social justice. During its 60th Annual Conference, Rev. Dr. John Maromba, the new Presiding Bishop, delivered a firm and visionary message, emphasizing that leadership must reflect humility, service, and moral responsibility.
A Nation in Need of Healing
Kenya is facing numerous challenges, including corruption, economic inequality, and political polarization. Rev. Dr. Maromba condemned corruption, saying it is "eroding the nation's moral fiber and economic strength." He urged policymakers to adopt compassionate policies that prioritize the welfare of citizens, noting that "a nation cannot thrive when its citizens lack basic necessities."
The Youth Deserve a Better Future
The Bishop expressed concern about the frustrations faced by Kenyan youth, many of whom feel abandoned by the system. He called for investments in job creation, empowerment, and opportunities that affirm the dignity of every young person. "Our young people feel discouraged and unseen," he said.
A New Path Forward
Rev. Dr. Maromba acknowledged the Methodist Church's past challenges, including internal leadership disputes and mismanagement concerns. However, he pledged that the church is choosing a different path, one defined by restoration, truth, and reconciliation. "We refuse to be defined by division," he affirmed. "Our past will not define our future."
A Call to Action
The Methodist Church in Kenya is calling on Kenyans to reject fear, division, and despair, and to embrace faith, courage, and shared responsibility. Rev. Dr. Maromba urged journalists to champion accuracy, responsibility, and peace, recognizing the media's vital role in democracy.
The 60th Annual Conference marks a defining milestone for the Methodist Church in Kenya, setting a national and spiritual agenda rooted in unity, accountability, healing, and hope for Kenya's future.
