LOCALS IN VADE OF NGONG FOREST WHISKED BY SNR ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER
Speaking during the raid a local Snr Assist Chief of Langata Sub-Location, Mr Evans Anekeya Omulubi,
have been witnessing with growing concern the destruction of Ngong Forest and its environs. The forest, which is a vital component of our ecosystem, is being ravaged by individuals who are cutting down trees for their personal gain.
The Destruction
The situation on the ground is dire. Trees are being cut down, and charcoal burning is rampant in the area. The once-pristine forest is now a scene of chaos, with individuals sneaking in to steal trees and destroy the environment. The destruction is not only limited to the trees but also affects the wildlife and the overall ecosystem.as the locals also takes vast advantage to do the practicing of brewing traditional (changaa)
Action Being Taken
As the Senior Assistant Chief, I have taken it upon myself to address this issue. and already reached out to the owner of the plots where the charcoal burning is taking place, and warned him to instruct his tenants to refrain from engaging in these illegal activities. I have also made it clear that any individual found cutting down trees or engaging in charcoal burning will be arrested and taken to court.
The Consequences
The consequences of this destruction are far-reaching. The loss of trees contributes to climate change, soil erosion, and loss of biodiversity. It also affects the livelihoods of those who depend on the forest for their survival. As a community, we must come together to protect our environment and ensure that our actions do not harm future generations.
A Call to Action
I urge all stakeholders, including the government, to take immediate action to protect Ngong Forest. We must work together to prevent further destruction and promote sustainability. I call upon the public to report any cases of tree cutting or charcoal burning to the authorities.
Evans Anekeya Omulubi
Senior Assistant Chief, Langata Sub-Location
