Nairobi, Kenya - The Kenya Police Service has issued a stern warning to boda boda riders following a surge in attacks on vehicles and reckless road behavior, vowing to ensure safety and order on the roads. Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat met with matatu operators to discuss the issue, emphasizing the need for urgent action to curb the menace.

Lagat's warning comes after Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria highlighted the growing problem of boda boda riders flouting traffic rules, including riding on the wrong side of the road, and engaging in violent attacks on other motorists.
DIG KPS Mr Eliud Lagat has announced strict enforcement measures, including arrest and impounding of motorcycles, for riders found breaking traffic rules.

"We will not tolerate any form of violence or lawlessness on our roads," Lagat said. "We are working closely with other stakeholders to ensure that those responsible are brought to book."
Mr Eluid Lagat DIG KPS echoed the sentiment, stating that the National government would not condone the actions of rogue boda boda riders. "We are committed to ensuring that our roads are safe for all users, and we will take strict action against those who flout traffic rules," he said.

The crackdown on boda boda riders comes as part of broader efforts to improve road safety in Kenya. According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), boda bodas are involved in a significant proportion of road accidents in the country.

In response to the warning, boda boda operators have vowed to cooperate with authorities to address the issue. "We condemn any form of violence and lawlessness," said Joseph Otieno, Chairman of the Boda Boda Riders Association. "We are committed to working with the police and other stakeholders to ensure that our roads are safe for all users.

The public has welcomed the crackdown, with many calling for stricter regulations on boda boda operations. "It's about time the authorities took action," said Jane Doe, a Nairobi resident. "I've been a victim of boda boda harassment, and it's terrifying to think that some riders are above the law.

As the police continue to crack down on rogue boda boda riders, the public remains hopeful that the measures will lead to safer roads and a reduction in road accidents.
