The Safaricom-sponsored pro carded a 4-under-par 284 over four days to top a stacked leaderboard, finishing three shots clear of the chasing pack. The win puts Mohit in pole position on the road to Magical Kenya Open qualification.
“I am excited to have won the first leg,” Mohit said after receiving his honors from Vetlab Golf Club Chairman Shitul Shah and Captain Raj Shah. “The hole-in-one came as a complete surprise. It’s a rare moment for any golfer, and I am truly happy about it.”
Mohit admitted the course was tough and the field tight, but credited focus and recent practice during the break for his form. “This win gives me great confidence, and I am really looking forward to the next legs. I hope to maintain this form throughout the season.”
Joint second went to fellow Safaricom-backed golfers Mutahi Kibugu and Samuel Chege, who each posted 1-under 287. They tied with Jastas Madoya. The trio received their dummy cheques from Safaricom representative Nazarine Mwangi and Vetlab Captain Raj Shah.
The top 10 was tight: Greg Snow and C.J. Wangai finished on 289; Robinson Owiti and debutant John Lejirma on 290; Dismas Indiza on 291; and Njoroge Kibugu, Daniel Nduva, and David Wakhu on 292.
The four-day event drew 52 of Kenya’s top professionals, including 6 debutants and three ladies who transitioned from the amateur ranks. The tour will play across 11 courses countrywide this year, with Thika Sports Club hosting the second leg next.
Backed by corporates including Safaricom, NCBA, Betika, Kenya Airways, Visa, Britam, and Johnnie Walker, the PGK Equator Tour aims to raise the standard of Kenyan professional golf and prepare players for international stages like the Magical Kenya Open and the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
