Nairobi, Kenya, June 8, 2026 — Brothers Keean and Kael Shah etched their names into Kenyan padel history on Sunday after being crowned champions of the inaugural Carrefour Open Padel Tournament, defeating Amar and Gaston 7-6 in a thrilling Top Kenya final held at Networks Padel Village in Nairobi.

The dramatic showdown brought the four-day tournament to an exciting conclusion, with the Shah brothers overcoming a determined challenge from their opponents in a match that highlighted the rapidly growing competitiveness and quality of padel in Kenya. Amar and Gaston finished as runners-up, while Maxwell and Devin, alongside Helder and Markel, shared third place honors.
In the women’s category, Khaaliqa and Seyaana emerged victorious after defeating Sharon and Faith in the final, capping off an action-packed weekend of high-level competition across multiple divisions.
The tournament was hosted by Carrefour Kenya, operated by Majid Al Futtaim, in partnership with Networks Padel Village. More than 250 athletes participated in the competition, battling for top honors and a share of the KES 700,000 prize pool across the Top Kenya, Advanced, Mixed, High Intermediate, Intermediate and Open categories.

For their victory in the premier Top Kenya division, Keean and Kael Shah walked away with KES 100,000 in prize money. Runners-up Amar and Gaston received KES 40,000, while the two third-placed teams each earned KES 30,000.
Reflecting on their memorable triumph, the Shah brothers described the match as one of the toughest and most rewarding contests they have played together.
"This was our first time playing together as brothers, and we have to give credit to our opponents for putting up a great fight. In the first set, they had us completely confused, but once we figured out our game, we were able to capitalize. It was a very competitive match and a fantastic final," they said.
The duo praised their opponents for pushing them throughout the contest.
"Amar’s left-handed play brings a very different challenge, while Gaston makes you work for every point. In the end, it was as much a mental game as it was physical. We’ve played them before and we’re looking forward to many more matches against them because it’s always competitive and a fun environment to play in."
The Carrefour Open featured competition across nine categories, including Top Kenya, Men’s Advanced, Ladies Advanced, Mixed Advanced, Men’s High Intermediate, Men’s Intermediate, Ladies Intermediate, Mixed Intermediate and Open Level 2.0. Players competed for both cash prizes and gift hampers, making the event one of the largest and most competitive padel tournaments ever staged in Kenya.

Beyond the competitive action, organizers also focused on nurturing the next generation of players through community engagement initiatives. A youth tournament was held alongside the main competition, introducing young athletes to the sport and providing mentorship opportunities through coaches from Networks Padel Village.

The successful conclusion of the inaugural Carrefour Open Padel Tournament marks a significant milestone in the development of padel in Kenya. With growing participation levels, increased corporate support and rising standards of competition, the event demonstrated the sport’s expanding appeal among both elite competitors and recreational players.
Organizers expressed confidence that the tournament will become a key fixture on Kenya’s sporting calendar, helping to further accelerate the growth of padel across the country and the wider East African region.
