Jubilee Health Insurance has expanded an instalment-based premium payment model aimed at making health insurance more affordable and accessible to uninsured and underinsured Kenyans.

The initiative, dubbed Linda Afya Leo – Lipa Pole Pole, allows customers to activate their health cover after making the first payment and spread the remaining premium over up to 10 monthly instalments, addressing one of the biggest barriers to private health insurance uptake—large annual lump-sum payments.

The programme targets individuals, families, first-time insurance buyers, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with between three and 50 employees.
Under the plan, customers can access health insurance packages starting from KSh3,256 per month, which provide KSh200,000 inpatient cover and KSh40,000 outpatient cover. Higher-tier packages offer inpatient benefits of up to KSh10 million.

Jubilee Health Insurance Chief Executive Officer Njeri Jomo said the expanded payment model responds to customer feedback indicating that while many Kenyans appreciate the value of health insurance, affordability remains a significant challenge.
"Many Kenyans remain uninsured not because they do not value health insurance, but because cover is often seen as expensive and complex," said Jomo.
"This is about much more than changing how customers pay. It's about changing how customers access health insurance. Whether you're buying your first health plan, protecting your family, caring for ageing parents or covering your employees, there should be a Jubilee Health solution that's right for you, and getting covered should be simple, convenient and affordable."

The rollout begins in Nairobi through the Afya Mtaani campaign, where Jubilee health advisors will engage residents directly within communities before the programme is extended to other parts of the country.

Insurance Regulatory Authority Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer Godfrey Kiptum welcomed initiatives that align insurance products with the financial realities of Kenyan households.
"Improving insurance penetration requires solutions that respond to the realities of consumer cash flow, especially among informal sector workers and underserved households," Kiptum said.
"Approaches that support affordability, accessibility and consumer understanding are important in broadening inclusion and strengthening confidence in insurance."
The initiative is part of Jubilee Health Insurance's broader expansion strategy and supports the company's goal of providing health insurance cover to one million lives by the end of 2027 through flexible payment options, digital enrolment, and community-based outreach.
