NAIROBI, Kenya – The People's Movement (PM Party) has congratulated the winner of the Ol Kalou Parliamentary by-election while celebrating what it termed a significant milestone for emerging political movements and young leaders in Kenya.
In a statement issued following the by-election, the party thanked residents of Ol Kalou Constituency for turning out to participate in the democratic process and recognized all voters who supported its candidate, Timothy Kamau, describing him as the youngest candidate in the race and a first-time parliamentary contestant.
PM Party noted that Kamau’s candidature represented a new generation of political leadership, coming at a time when the party had received its registration certificate only three months before the by-election.
“Your support has demonstrated that a new political consciousness is emerging across our country,” the party said, adding that the contest had proven that young leaders were increasingly willing to participate in shaping Kenya’s political future.
While conceding the outcome, PM Party said it emerged from the Ol Kalou contest stronger, arguing that the election had shown that new ideas could compete against established political structures.
The party said the by-election had provided important lessons for Kenya’s democratic journey, including the growing influence of the youth vote, the ability of new political movements to compete nationally, and a shift among voters towards leadership, values, and accountability.
However, PM Party raised concerns over alleged electoral malpractices during the campaign period, including claims of voter bribery, intimidation, violence, and misuse of state influence.
“Democracy cannot flourish where fear replaces freedom,” the party stated, calling on relevant institutions to investigate credible allegations and protect public confidence in Kenya’s electoral system.
The party emphasized that elections should be determined by ideas, integrity, and public trust rather than inducements, intimidation, or abuse of power.
According to PM Party, the Ol Kalou by-election carries lessons beyond Nyandarua County, demonstrating that Kenya’s political landscape is undergoing transformation, with young voters becoming a decisive force in determining the country’s leadership direction.
“The appetite for political renewal is growing stronger with every election,” the party said, pledging to continue championing a new political culture centered on accountability, inclusion, and leadership renewal.
